The Denver Public Schools Podcast

DPS Snapshots Show with Natalie B. - District Updates for Sept. 19

Denver Public Schools Season 3 Episode 6

1. Submit Nominations For Storytelling Campaign

DPS is launching a storytelling campaign to celebrate the incredible students and educators across our community. In this campaign, the word “Public” in Denver Public Schools is replaced with five empowering adjectives — Passionate, Personalized, Powerful, Prestigious and Proud — to highlight what makes DPS amazing.

We’re inviting YOU to nominate a student, educator, team of people, or even yourself to be featured in this campaign. Don’t miss out on the chance to share good news with the community and spotlight the people behind DPS' accomplishments. Stories will be shared across district channels, with the potential for additional media coverage.

You can submit your nomination on the form linked in our show notes. (Denver Public Schools Storytelling Nomination Form) If you have questions, please email communications@dpsk12.org.

2. Tasty Food’s Free Meal Program for the 2025-26 School Year

Tasty Food’s after-school meal program is back, and is available through May 2026. Youth ages 3-18 are welcome to stop by any participating site to enjoy a free, nutritious meal. No ID or registration is required. With 14 open sites across the City and Country of Denver, there are plenty of convenient options for families. Find a Tasty Food site near you using the link in our shownotes! Please be aware that serving dates and times do vary. Check the Tasty Food website for the most up-to-date information.

3. Daniels Scholarship Program Application Open

The Daniels Scholarship Program is one of the most comprehensive and generous college scholarships in the country. It helps make college possible for high-achieving, values-driven students in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. It offers a full ride at partner schools or up to $25,000 per year at any accredited college in the United States.

They are looking for students with strong character, leadership potential and a heart for giving back. Daniels Scholars work hard, dream big, serve others and take pride in their communities and country. Learn more and apply online Sept. 15-Oct. 17 at www.danielsfund.org/scholarships.

4. Project Support for Students Pursuing the Seal of Climate Literacy

Middle and high school students who plan to pursue the Seal of Climate Literacy can partner with a wide variety of local organizations for their experiential learning project. We have a list of inspiration linked in our shownotes. This resource also has wonderful classroom opportunities for teachers of all contents to partner with local organization programs to engage in climate action projects. Students, families, and schools can learn more about how to apply for the Seal of Climate Literacy on the DPS Sustainability website. Questions and requests for support can be sent to dept_sustainability@dpsk12.net.

5. Meet Hank and Liberty: Lowry Elementary School's Facility Dogs

Lowry Elementary School has two facility dogs, Hank and Liberty. They are trained service dogs, but are available any time for kids if they need some additional support or just a snuggle break. Head to our show notes to watch their story.
