1. Tell Your Students About SHIFT: Students for Health, Innovation, Facts and Truth

SHIFT, a program from Student Voice and Leadership, is a new, year-long, paid leadership opportunity for middle and high schoolers. This opportunity focuses on uplifting student input to design the future of sexual health education and student voice at DPS. Any middle or high schooler should apply if they are interested in health-related topics, education, lesson design, leadership, action and advocacy. Interested students should be ready to explore, question, challenge and improve how sexual health is taught and discussed in schools!

Help spread the word! Staff can also nominate students who may be a great fit for this program. The deadline to apply for SHIFTis Sept. 30!

2. Application Open for DPS 101: A Community Leadership Course

Members of the DPS Community are invited to apply to participate in the DPS 101: A Community Leadership Course by Wednesday, Sept. 24. This course focuses on DPS collaborative leadership -- exploring departments' inner workings and fostering civic engagement. Participants gain a deeper understanding of department functions and a sense of belonging. 

Again, this in-person learning opportunity is open to all DPS community members, including parents and DPS affiliates. The course consists of monthly meetings from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Emily Griffith Campus 14er located at 1860 Lincoln St. Meetings are currently scheduled for Oct. 8, Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Feb. 4, March 4, April 1 and May 6. 

3. Free Tools for Change: Simple Solutions for Families and Communities

The Substance Use Prevention and Intervention team is hosting a workshop on September 29th at 12:00 pm. The workshop will discuss how the campaign, titled “Talk. They Hear You.” serves as a starting point for initiating conversation and aims to reduce underage drinking and substance use among youth under the age of 21. Spanish interpretation available. 4. Asbury Elementary 100 Year Celebration

Asbury Elementary recently celebrated its 100th year as a school! The milestone brought together alumni, students and families to honor the school’s rich history and bright future. From special projects highlighting the past, present and future of Asbury to an amazing performance by the South High School Drumline, the day was filled with Eagle pride and community spirit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpIkqueuS04

5.  Back2School 5K

It’s not quite time for Walk-tober yet, but start lacing up your running shoes, team DPS!  The Denver Public Schools Foundation is teaming up with the DPS Wellness Department to make this year’s Back2School 5K bigger and better than ever. It’s happening on Saturday, September 27th, at Berkeley Lake Park. Check-in starts at 8 a.m., and the fun run kicks off at 9 a.m. This is a fully student-focused event! They’ll have student runners. A student DJ. and even student photographers capturing all the best moments throughout the morning.
